Cal Clutterbuck's two goals salvage a win for Islanders

RALEIGH — Cal Clutterbuck’s slap shot banked off a Hurricanes defenseman and in with 13.8 seconds left in overtime, giving the Islanders a 4-3 win Saturday night and two much-needed points.

Clutterbuck’s second goal of the game kept the Isles a point behind the Penguins in the chase for third in the Metro Division and four points ahead of the eighth-place Flyers who were playing the Arizona Coyotes late last night.

Clutterbuck tied the game 30 seconds into the third with a wrist shot off a feed from Casey Cizikas. That helped erase an ugly second in which the Isles were outshot 19-7 and allowed three bad Hurricanes goals, all off faceoff losses and two that goalie J-F Berube should have covered.
