Winnipeg, Manitoba — This was just a confirmation that Robin Lehner deserves all the praise he has gotten for his bounce-back year.
The Islanders goalie was the team’s nominee for the Masterton Trophy, as voted on by the club’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. It was announced Thursday morning, just before Lehner made 33 saves and backstopped his team to a breathtaking 5-4 win over the Jets.
The award goes to the player “who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey,” and Lehner is more than likely going to win it at the league-wide ceremony in June.
