Japan isn't yet known for its ice hockey stars, but Fujimoto's goaltending was a highlight of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Now she's likely going to be the Riveters' starting goaltender.
Nana Fujimoto is the real deal. During group play for Team Japan in the 2014 Olympics, the 5'4" netminder stopped 79 shots, including a 22-save, one-goal loss to eventual fourth-place finishers, Sweden. Considering that Japan only scored a single goal during group play, and never won a game in the entire tournament, Fujimoto essentially had the team on her back.
Her work ethic, reliability, and athleticism make her a true #1 goalie.
