TAMPA, Fla. — Islanders coach Barry Trotz has both alternated his goalies and let either Semyon Varlamov or Thomas Greiss take over as the No. 1 for a stretch this season. He likely will go back to a rotation for the season’s final two months.
“I think the schedule will box you in for the most part,” Trotz said. “And the travel.”
Varlamov made 27 saves in Saturday night’s 3-1 loss to the Lightning at Amalie Arena, marking the fourth straight game Trotz has alternated him with Greiss.
