The New York Islanders have not spoken with restricted free agent Brock Nelson in six weeks, his agent, Ron Salcer, told Newsday (Sept. 14).
The 23-year-old Nelson scored 20 goals and 22 assists last season for the Islanders. Coming off his entry-level contract, he does not have any arbitration rights. The deadline to get a deal done is Sept. 16.
Captain John Tavares said last week he believes Nelson will attend training camp.
“We haven’t heard from them in six weeks,” Salcer told Newsday. “[Islanders general manager] Garth [Snow] and I talked six weeks ago after they made an offer, which was nowhere near commensurate with what players like Brock are making.
