In the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders selected center Reece Newkirk out of Portland of the WHL.
Newkirk is listed at 5’11, 172-lbs. The left-shooting center had 36 goals, 59 assists and 88 PIM in 68 games during his second season with Portland in 2018-19.
He was ranked 110th for this draft class by Future Considerations, 170th by McKeen’s Hockey, and 81st among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
