As New York Giants fans are well aware, much responsibility gets placed in the hands of third-year man Eli Apple. Clearly, it is not deserved – but it is the reality. Right now, and unless a lot changes, Apple will start opposite Janoris Jenkins on opening day.
Curiously, the team did not address the dearth of cornerbacks at the NFL Draft. I equate it to the tight end position during the Jerry Reese days. The team recognizes the need but doesn’t like the value on the board.
Sound philosophy, right?
Well, not if you subscribe to the thought that most any player available in the draft would have represented an upgrade at the position.
