One of the highlight moves of Dave Gettleman’s first offseason as General Manager came when he used a supplemental draft pick on Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal in 2018. Gettleman paid a steep price, using the equivalent of a third round selection on the speedy defensive back.
After declining to enter the standard 2018 draft, Beal appeared to get wind of his rising stock, as some outlets had him going in the fist round in their early 2019 mock drafts. This caused him to enter the supplemental draft, which is rarely a factor for players or franchises these days.
