For a fleeting moment, it appeared to just about everyone at MetLife Stadium and those watching Friday night's 22-16 Giants win over the Jets that Hunter Sharp had locked up a roster spot when he returned a first quarter punt 55 yards for a touchdown.
Then Sharp dropped a pass on offense that not only was a catchable ball from Eli Manning, but stalled what had been a promising drive into Jets territory.
"The coaches will hold the drop against me," Sharp said afterwards. "It's hard to make the team as a receiver, when you don't catch the ball.
