One player who didn’t have to wait is rookie running back Saquon Barkley. The New York Giants selected Barkley with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Big Blue general manager Dave Gettleman commented that the former Penn State star was “touched by the hand of God.”
It’s very much an understatement to say that hopes were extremely high for Barkley to carry the G-Men to new heights offensively.
According to Pro Football Reference, Barkley has rushed for 519 yards on 111 carries. That calculates to 4.7 yards per carry. If Barkley continues along this line of production, he will barely surpass the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season.
