Back in 1991, Ray Handley took over as the New York Giants’ head coach after Bill Parcells decided to step down.
Handley previously served as the Giants’ offensive backfield coach from 1984-1990 and was essentially promoted. Unfortunately his time as New York’s head coach only lasted two years after he went 8-8 in 1991 and 6-10 in 1992.
Barry Werner of List Wire created a list of the “20 worst coaching hires in NFL history” and Handley made the cut.
Some situations are more challenging to step into than others. Such was the situation the New York Giants found themselves in when Bill Parcells exited.
