PHOENIX — There is a theme to how the Giants approached free agency. Familiarity and past experience with the player was not a prerequisite, but it was helpful, and just like that, three player were signed who all played previously for defensive coordinator James Bettcher.
In the past, free agency worked more gradually. There was a call to express interest. A visit was scheduled. Dinner, introductions, football talk. One side was able to feel the other out. Nowadays, a call and a contract agreement can come swiftly and with no interpersonal communication. Buyer beware, in many cases.
The Giants signed three former Cardinals players – safety Antoine Bethea, outside linebacker Markus Golden and defensive lineman Olsen Pierre — who all played for Bettcher in Arizona.
