What most already thought was true finally became a reality. New York Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz is officially out for the season. He made the announcement Monday morning that he is having calf surgery, which ultimately would end his season. Cruz has been recovering for a torn patellar tendon since last year. He was scheduled to see the field at some point this season before he announced his surgery.
While this isn’t a surprise to anyone, it’s time to think about what comes next. Cruz’s career with the Giants is now in doubt. Missing an entire season with an injury and counting around $10 million against the Giants’ salary cap next year isn’t a good combination.
