Predictably, Eli Manning was voted by his teammates as offensive captain for the 10th straight season. Not surprisingly, the Giants’ second-longest-tenured player, Zak DeOssie, was chosen to be the special teams captain for the sixth consecutive year.
Linebacker Jonathan Casillas wasn’t the obvious choice to be named the third full-season captain in just his second season with the Giants, but the veteran — who called the honor “surreal” and “unbelievable” — wasn’t entirely surprised because he had been preparing for the role all offseason.
“It was actually one of my goals for the year,” Casillas said Friday.
