In the wake of the ugly BountyGate scandal in 2012, with a franchise fracturing around him, Steve Spagnuolo suffered through the worst season a defensive coordinator could ever imagine. At least he thought he did.
Until now.
There is still a long way to go, of course, but right now this Giants defense is giving those Saints a run for their money. That Saints team gave up 7,042 total yards, the most in NFL history.
This Giants team, halfway through this season, is on pace to give up just 190 yards fewer than that.
That is amazing, pathetic and hard to fathom, even if no one expected miracles from Spagnuolo in his return to the Giants with the talent he was expected to coach.
