Tom Coughlin has Giants doing yoga on recovery day

It was just two months ago when former Giant Walter Thurmond said in an interview that Giants coach Tom Coughlin doesn’t believe in sports science and “modern medicine.”

The soon-to-be 69-year-old head coach is at least proving he’s open to new ideas.

The Giants this week are experimenting with what Coughlin dubbed “GPS Week,” which consisted of longer and more strenuous practices Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a pair of recovery days beginning Thursday, which included a walkthrough, meetings and two 15-minute recovery sessions.

There are six different recovery stations the players can choose from: Yoga, a contrast hot-cold tub, massage, self-massage with stick rollers and bands, FMS (functional movement screen) exercises and air-compression boots, which some of the players said can “flush” the legs out.
