The question that has been plaguing so many Giants fans who sit a few dozen miles past fed up with this 1-8 season has been a simple one: What exactly does a guy have to do to get fired as the head coach around here?

Well, we can start here, which is a place you already know: The Giants are still half-owned by the Mara family, which has had a hand in the team since 1925. And 41 years ago Wellington Mara had the following thing to say about the possibility of making a switch midstream:

“Changing coaches in midseason has always been repugnant to me,” Mara said.
