The self-diagnosed knock on the Giants defense is too many big plays allowed in the first eight games.
In other words, the spotlight is directly on Curtis Riley.
It is part of the free safety's job description to prevent big gains from becoming touchdowns, and the first-year member of the Giants secondary has been late entering the picture on several plays that have decided close games, particularly in losses to the Redskins, Cowboys and Panthers.
"It's his first time starting and he is eight weeks into it," defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo said.
