DETROIT -- Native son Pat Shurmur was in a celebratory mood and catching up with old friends late Friday night in the basement of Ford Field when his starting quarterback walked past.
After earning his first preseason win as Giants head coach, Shurmur put his hand on the kid's shoulder, told him he played well and introduced him to the small group like a father (or a quarterback expert) beaming with pride: "This is Davis Webb."
Maybe it was a glimpse into the future because Eli Manning still is the starting quarterback in 2018, but, with Manning sitting out the 30-17 win against the Lions, Webb looked the part of a worthy heir apparent for later in Shurmur's tenure.
