Every team got $4,995,000 in bonus money from the NFL to distribute to players based on a formula that takes into account playing time relative to salary. So, lower-paid players — late-round rookies, undrafted free agents or low-profile veterans — benefit from this bonus money if they got a lot of playing time. The bonuses don't count against the salary cap and are separate from the performance-based incentives in some players' contracts.
