The Giants are giving Corey Ballentine as much time as he needs after the rookie cornerback was shot in an incident earlier in the week that took the life of one of his best friends.
“This is a unique situation, and we want him to get full closure on his end,’’ coach Pat Shurmur said Friday after a rookie minicamp practice that went on without Ballentine. “We’re sensitive to that. This is a real life situation. We want him to make sure he gets full closure. It’s May, we play in September.’’
Ballentine, taken in the sixth-round out of Division II Washburn University, was out with his friend and teammate, Dwane Simmons, early last Sunday morning in Topeka, Kan.
