Rooney Mara's Oscar nomination bodes well for Steelers' Super Bowl 50 quest

Rooney Mara is the early betting favorite to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in “Carol,” a feat that presumably would make her the first great-granddaughter of the founders of two NFL franchises to win an acting Oscar.

But her recent nomination alone bodes well for the Steelers, founded by her maternal great-grandfather, Art Rooney Sr. Thus far every time she has been nominated for an Oscar, one of her family’s teams has won the Super Bowl.

The last time, as Best Actress for the 2011 film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” the Giants of her late paternal great-grandfather Wellington Mara won it all.
