Rookie review: Eli Apple bounces back, Roger Lewis has 'moments'

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Performance in the NFL is a weekly proposition, and more so with younger players.

So much can change from one game to the next. Young players are in the midst of a wicked learning curve, some more severe (depending on position, maturity, ability to absorb information, and college coaching) than others.

New York Giants first-round pick Eli Apple had the toughest game of his career the previous Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was, effectively, benched in the second half of that contest because of poor performance.

It was somewhat expected. As a rookie or young player in the NFL, you're bound to struggle unless you're an outlier in the vein of Odell Beckham.
