Unless he chooses a fullback to block for Saquon Barkley or stunningly changes organizations, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman will not use a third straight first-round draft pick on a running back in 2019.
Gettleman drafted Christian McCaffrey with the No. 8 overall pick for the Panthers in 2017 and Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick for the Giants in 2018.
McCaffrey was a bit of a no-brainer for the playmaker-starved Panthers, whereas Barkley was selected over other viable Top 10 options like quarterbacks Josh Rosen Josh Allen and Sam Darnold, offensive guard Quenton Nelson and defensive end Bradley Chubb.
