It's been a month full of unexpected bad news for the Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul, but this, at least, everyone saw coming: As expected, the injured defensive end did not sign a long-term contract with the team before the 4 p.m. deadline, the Giants confirmed Wednesday.
Pierre-Paul, who was released Tuesday from Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital after sustaining serious injuries to his hand from a July 4 fireworks accident, is a franchise-tendered player and had until Wednesday to negotiate a deal longer than the one-year contract currently on the table.
Multiple reports have indicated that Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated and had surgery to help repair a fracture in his thumb.
