The New York Giants did not franchise tag Xavier McKinney, who will now hit the open market when the new league year commences next week. Without McKinney, the Giants desperately need safety help, especially in Shane Bowen’s defense, which frequently features three-safety packages.
New York currently has Jason Pinnock, Dane Belton, and Gervarrius Owens at safety. Owens has yet to play a defensive snap, Belton played well down the season's stretch, and Pinnock showed promise, playing 1,011 snaps.
Still, that safety group has questions, and Jerome Henderson's unit would have to be strengthened with a discount starter or significant depth.
