To the surprise of many, Tony Romo has officially announced his retirement from the NFL.
Romo, who worked his way from undrafted quarterback to the league’s fourth-highest rated passer ever, suffered an injury to his spine that eventually led to the rise of Dak Prescott as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
He will now enter the CBS broadcast booth alongside Jim Nance, taking the place of Phil Simms.
But before Romo left the podium for the final time as a player, he handed some praise to New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
“I had to work harder to beat him … he’s made me a better player,” Romo said, via Patrik Walker of 247Sports.
