I opined yesterday that Kyle Lauletta’s performance against the Patriots in the preseason finale had seemingly all but locked up a roster spot for the second-year quarterback. I was dead wrong, as Tom Peliserro just reported that he has been cut. Via Twitter:
The news comes as a shock to anyone who followed Lauletta’s progress over the course of his second pre-season. Many Jerry Reese draft picks have suffered unfortunate, and sometimes untimely, early exits from the team. Lauletta was one of Gettleman’s guys though, making this move this one more puzzling.
Pat Shurmur and Dave Gettleman have always professed their almost-weird love for the 31-year-old journeyman quarterback Alex Tanney, and while it’s unclear if Tanney has been cut yet, he has at least lasted longer than Lauletta.
