Quite frankly, red zone inefficiency has plagued the New York Giants going back to the days when Kevin Gilbride presided as offensive coordinator. Back then Gilbride was considered the problem, so Ben McAdoo was hired as OC, then as head coach.
The problem didn’t dissipate.
Obviously, there was much thought that red zone issues were due to lack of personnel, and while that may have partly been the case, there certainly were enough offensive threats to make it work.
Then another consideration appeared, as big-bodied receivers like Rueben Randle and Brandon Marshall were counted upon as some sort of magic elixir.
