Mike Singletary up for Giants linebackers coach

Here’s an interesting name in the mix for a spot on the Giants’ new-look coaching staff: Mike Singletary.

ESPN reported the former 49ers head coach will interview Thursday for the team’s vacant linebackers coach position.

A 10-time Pro Bowler as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears, the 57-year-old Singletary compiled an 18-22 record in two-plus seasons in charge in San Francisco, a tenure marked by outbursts of bad temper. He was fired with one game remaining in the 2010 season. He last worked as an assistant with the Vikings from 2011-13.

Former linebackers coach Jim Herrmann left the Giants for the same job with the Colts.
