INDIANAPOLIS — Kyle Shurmur will see many coaches this week at the NFL Scouting Combine and no doubt will shake many hands along the way. You can be sure none of these encounters will include what transpired, quickly, here Thursday.
“Saw him for a minute during the informal interviews,’’ Shurmur said. “He came up and gave me like a hug. A bro-hug.’’
This was not coach-to player affection. It was father-to-son. Kyle Shurmur’s more well-known dad, Pat Shurmur, is here as the head coach of the Giants, investigating players for the draft. Several of those players are quarterbacks, which is the position Kyle played for four years at Vanderbilt.
