Osi Umenyiora isn’t counting out Jason Pierre-Paul.
The former Giants great, who announced his retirement Wednesday at an emotional press conference at the team’s facility, said he had a conversation over Face Time with JPP two weeks ago and came away confident the defensive end will be back soon.
Pierre-Paul had his right index finger fully amputated in the wake of a July 4 fireworks accident that also left the 26-year-old with a broken thumb and serious burns he needed skin grafts to repair.
“He was in good spirits. He seemed like he was himself,” said Umenyiora, who served as a mentor to Pierre-Paul when they overlapped with the Giants from 2010-12.
