Josh Brown’s short kicks aren’t as intentional as they appear

It looked as if Josh Brown was trying different techniques in last week’s victory over the Cowboys, as just two of his five kickoffs went for touchbacks and the three that fell short appeared to be strategically placed that way.

Not so.

“No,’’ special teams coach Tom Quinn said Thursday, chuckling. “We do mortar kick, we do squib kick at the end of the half. But we want to kick those deep.’’

They did not go deep, and that has been somewhat of a blemish on Brown’s season.
