John Mara: When my dad knew Eli Manning was the answer

Error 0:

Wellington Mara never saw Eli Manning win Super Bowls for his Giants. The franchise patriarch passed away in October 2005.

But there is a strong sense Wellington Mara knew what Manning was going to become, and that brings great solace and comfort to his oldest son, Giants co-owner John Mara.

The Giants traded for Manning early in the 2004 NFL Draft, and he did not start until the 10th game of his rookie season. Manning lost his first six starts, some in desultory fashion, and finally gained his first victory in the season finale, directing a fourth-quarter comeback and changing the fateful play from a pass to a run, as Tiki Barber scored and Manning and the Giants beat the Cowboys, 28-24.
