The New York Giants allowed the NFL franchise-tag deadline to pass Tuesday without giving the designation to defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News reported in light of the Giants' decision, they are in prime position to land an ideal free-agent target in Miami Dolphins star Olivier Vernon.
Although Miami placed the transitions tag on Vernon, per Samuel, it's worth $12.7 million, and New York can come over the top with a bigger offer the Dolphins would be required to match.
