Days after the July 4 accident that blew off portions of his right hand, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul walked around the burn unit of this hospital in South Florida and gained perspective.
He saw lost hands, like his, lost legs, and worse. Some injuries were the result of fireworks, like his, but everyone, he said, was fighting a battle.
“The past is the past, you know,” he said Wednesday at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hearst Burn Center. “But every day, somebody is struggling, doing something, trying to survive.”
In many ways, Pierre-Paul is lucky.
