Mario Williams never got to New Jersey, and for good reason. The free agent defensive end, who was supposed to visit the Giants, instead landed a reported two-year deal worth an average of $8 million per season with the Dolphins.
But while the Giants were not able to land Williams as part of their aggressive effort to revamp a punchless pass rush, that does not mean their interest in the Pro Bowler ends here. Now, Williams could have an indirect impact on their potential pursuit of another big-name defensive end, Miami's Olivier Vernon.
