The Giants had a decision to make with Josh Mauro: Increase his preseason workload so he can get a head start on soon-to-be lost time or decrease it so others can get ready to fill his spot.
When Mauro substituted in with the first-team defense at end last week against the Jets, the decision was made. Until then, he mostly practiced with the second unit.
"We're training him as much as we can," head coach Pat Shurmur said. "He's just not going to be here for a month, so we're going to try to get as much training as we can until he's not with us.
