Here’s the last time the Giants drafted a great pass rusher

Like many NFL teams the New York Giants have done a good job of drafting certain positions but have failed to replace other positions on their roster.

One of the Giants’ most glaring needs that they’ve been unable to fix has been at the edge rusher position. When looking at their history in drafting pass rushers, they’ve whiffed on way too many. Let’s look at their history of selecting edge rushers within the first three rounds in the past.

  • 2019 – DE Oshane Ximines (3rd round)
  • 2018 – DE Lorenzo Carter (3rd round)
  • 2015 – DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa (3rd round)
  • 2013 – DE Demontre Moore (3rd round)
  • 2010 – DE Jason Pierre-Paul (1st round)

Of course we still don’t know how good Ximines and Carter will be since they’re recent draft picks, but by looking at the Giants’ efforts to get a pass rusher within the first three rounds over the past several years, the last time they actually selected a difference maker was in 2010 when they drafted Jason Pierre-Paul.
