Prior to Sunday's career-high 142-yard rushing outburst from Giants running back Saquon Barkley, the rookie's only other 100-rushing yard game came five weeks earlier against the Eagles.
Something had to change.
According to Barkley, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur challenged him to get more "dirty" yards in Week 11, and the rookie aimed to get "through the mesh" quicker on each carry.
"What through the mesh is, through the handoff between you and the quarterback," Barkley said Monday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. "Where you lineup in the home position, or the shotgun.
