Mykkele Thompson's snakebitten Giants career has come to an potential end.

The Giants waived/injured the 2015 fifth-round pick on Thursday, a day before the preseason opener against the Steelers at MetLife Stadium, and have signed rookie linebacker Jimmy Herman to take his spot on the 90-man roster. Herman played at Purdue.

Thompson only appeared in one regular season game for the Giants, as the first two seasons of his career were derailed by injuries. The Texas product entered the NFL as a safety, but blew out his Achilles in the first half of his first preseason game as a rookie.
