Giants waive former starting linebacker B.J. Goodson

B.J. Goodson survived cut-down day. However, it only prolonged the inevitable. The Giants are waiving the one-time starting middle linebacker.

A fourth-round pick in 2016, he started 13 games in 2018 and 20 games the last two seasons combined, notching 114 tackles, two interceptions and four breakups. But he fell out of favor with the coaching staff, receiving mostly third-team reps this summer.

Tae Davis moved ahead of Goodson on the depth chart and is expected to start alongside Alec Ogletree.

In a corresponding move, the team announced it signed free-agent linebacker David Mayo, who was waived Saturday by the 49ers.
