Giants vs. Jaguars injury report: Latest on Olivier Vernon, Evan Engram

The Giants began preparation for Sunday's Week 1 showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium, without two of the team's key contributors on offense and defense.

Outside linebacker Olivier Vernon was not on the field at all during the early portion of Monday's practice that was open to reporters. Vernon suffered an ankle injury during last Sunday's practice, and was carted off the field.

Following Thursday night's exhibition finale against the New England Patriots, Vernon was seen walking out of the locker room and said "Feeling good, getting better,' as he exited MetLife Stadium.

If Vernon is unable to play on Sunday, look for third-round rookie Lorenzo Carter to see extended playing time in his first career NFL Game.
