Dave Gettleman took his shot, he just came up empty.
It may be of little comfort to Giants fans now, but Gettleman did make a run for the No. 2-overall pick before trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns, 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed Friday.
While Gettleman eventually dealt Beckham to Cleveland for the No. 17 pick, No. 95 pick and safety Jabrill Peppers, he tried to reel in a bigger fish in the form of San Francisco’s first-rounder.
“I think, ironically, the fact that we had the No. 2 pick made it more difficult because they wanted that badly,” Lynch said Friday on KNBR radio.
