John Mara says he likes a guy with something to prove. Mike Smith has something to prove and that is likely one reason why he is in the mix as a Giants’ head coaching candidate.
Smith, 56, will meet with the Giants on Monday and will be the sixth interview set up by Mara, the co-owner, and Jerry Reese, the general manager. Former Bills head coach Doug Marrone on Saturday interviewed for the job that until recently belonged to Tom Coughlin.
In some ways, Smith is a coaching opposite of Coughlin in that he did his best work with the Falcons in the regular season and was a post-season washout.
