Whatever plans the Giants had for their reconstituted offensive line this upcoming season were shattered on Wednesday.
Will Beatty, projected as the starting left tackle, suffered a torn pectoral muscle while weight training and required surgery that will sideline him for five to six months, a source said. The procedure was performed by Dr. Frank Cordasco at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
It's unclear what the Giants will do to fill the position. They selected Ereck Flowers (University of Miami) in the first round of the draft and have spoken of him as their left tackle of the future, but it's unclear if he will be prepared for the important job of protecting Eli Manning's blind side as a rookie.
