EAST RUTHERFORD -- The Giants officially have a kicking competition.
Unproven Aldrick Rosas had been the only kicker on the roster all offseason, but the Giants signed veteran free agent Mike Nugent on Tuesday. Nugent fills the roster vacancy created by the abrupt retirement of undrafted rookie safety Jadar Johnson.
The addition of Nugent comes as a bit of a surprise after special teams coordinator Tom Quinn said in June that it would be tough to give two kickers enough reps in training camp.
"The number of training camp practices have cut down, so the number of opportunities are cut down and kicks," Quinn said in June.
