Giants sign veteran Steelers cornerback

Here’s more veteran depth for a team trying to win now.

The Giants on Thursday signed cornerback William Gay, who’s spent 11 of his 12 NFL seasons in Pittsburgh, to add to a new-look defense under coordinator James Bettcher.

Gay, 33, had been with the Steelers since 2013, and originally was a fifth-round draft pick by Pittsburgh. Depending on what the Giants do in the draft, Gay figures to compete for a nickel cornerback slot behind projected starters Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple.

The Giants have added B.W. Webb, Teddy Williams and Curtis Riley as cornerback depth this offseason after losing Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Ross Cockrell.
