The Giants signed veteran QB Josh Johnson on Monday and released projected starting middle linebacker Jasper Brinkley to make room for the new addition.
Johnson, 30, spent the preseason with the Ravens and was released this weekend. He has spent time with the Bucs, Browns, 49ers, Jets, Colts and Bills in his seven-year career, starting five games and appearing in 29. He has five career TD passes and 10 career interceptions. His last regular-season pass was thrown in 2011.
The move comes just a few days after the Giants announced their 53-man roster and Ben McAdoo said he was comfortable with having just two quarterbacks – Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib – on the team despite Nassib’s struggles this preseason.
