The Giants’ troublesome safety position received a major boost Sunday afternoon.
In a somewhat surprising move, Big Blue announced the addition of two-time Pro Bowler Brandon Meriweather, an at-times troubled but also productive safety who brings experience and a hard-hitting edge to the Giants’ secondary.
Meriweather, wearing No. 43, took part in his first Giants practice early Sunday evening. He started 10 games for the Redskins last year, finishing with 55 tackles (36 solo), a career-high three sacks, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, but wasn’t brought back. In 99 career games, he has 15 interceptions and nine forced fumbles.
